Assignment Four
Jan 11 2007, 1:20 PM EST
1. The most important idea I got from these two chapters is that we make the choice to either be a great teacher or not. We can reap good ideas from successful educators. We all know who the effective teachers are in our environment. As a teacher I liked looking at that persons character, their love of learning and respect that they have for their posititon. Hook up with these people take their advice, bend it to fit your personality and use it in your classroom.
2. As educators we should be flexible...seeing great teachers do what they do (because they do it well) is a way to get good ideas...it is motivation and a moral boost if you need to get out of a hole. 3. You get a feeling about a place...if a classroom/school is run with the upmost care, support, hardwork, determination and skill it is noticed. If the teachers and staff are caring, concerned and on top of things...it is noticeable. On the flipside, if a school or classroom is unmanaged, unorganized, uncaring it will also get recognition...but in a sense of not being great. You have to have consistency or you will loose the students, parents and your community. 4. Poor. Basically it is the person, not the program/material. It is how things are presented. If you have the most boring subject in the world to present if you are a good speaker you will be successful in keeping your audiences attention. "It is always about the people." "Programs are never the solution, and they are never the problem." 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Terri Lynn
I haven't got a chance to read the chapters, yet, but you make me anxious do so. Bev said that she started reading and read forty pages, because it was so interesting. I think we all need a way to assess our teaching. and to also receive feedback, either negative or positive, to help formulate a better learning environment for all of our studemts. Sincerely, Denise Do you find this valuable? |

It"s not so much what you have (materials and such) or the setting, it's how you treat and care for your students that makes the difference. Do you find this valuable? |

Pam, I agree totally. It's the old adage, they don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. A great teacher can make any program successful. We are blessed with so many great teachers at WES.

Oops! Comments to Pam on your page--sorry!
Terri Lynn, I totally agree with your comments. Actually, I think I stated many of the same things in a much more disorganized, rambling fashion. Next time, perhaps I should just copy your answers. I like them better. Love ya! Do you find this valuable? |

Terri Lynn, I agree with your comments. We can't afford to not learn new ideas and we need to surround ourselves with those who can motivate us to try new ideas. Thanks to you and Debbie, we are allowed to do that at our school. Not only do we have the best leaders here, but a wealth of talented teachers to learn from. Thanks for all you do! LUV YA! Diane

I loved your comment about "you get a feeling about a place". This is soooo true. The minute you walk in our school, you can sense that there is a lot going on, a love between the staff, and that it is a very organized place conducive to learning. I have also been in other schools where this is not so evident. It is such a blessing to work at Wayne Elementary!!!

I agree with what you were saying . The way we do our job is our choice. Being prepared and caring about the outcome of what we do is very important. We mare always what we chose to be , good or bad.

Pam, you know your stuff. Being caring and daring is what separtes the great teacher from the rest. Caring for the children you entusted with and daring to be bold and try new practices that reach a child that has been unreachable is the key to greatness!!
