Great teachers know that picking their battles should be the main key in having and maintaining a classroom management program. They do not lose good instructional time in dealing with trival problems. In Sp. Ed., the teachers have the students for several years, and get to know each student, their personalities, what behavioral plan that works and what does not work for each student.
Students misbehave for reason and an effective teacher can tune into the causes. The teacher must beaware if the child comes from a negative environment, did they eat dinner the night before, are they on medicine, did they have their medicine? All of these can be major factors in a child's negative behavior.
If a teacher continues to "nikpik" at every mistake a students maske, soon the self esteeem of the student will decline. The student might withdraw and will see no point intrying their best. An effective teacher know how to correct the child's behavior and their work with a positive attitude and let the student know the teacher cares about everything concerning them. Positiive reinforcement should be given before and after a discipline problem has been solved. i let my students know, when problems occur, that I love them and no matter what they have done, I will still love them. When I correct them that is because I love them and want them to learn right form wrong. Effective teachers know how to build a productive learning classroom by being flexible, but holds strong to their positive teaching values. They know how to get control and keep control of the class. This eliminates a power struggle, and that the teacher respects the students and the students respect the teacher. I have a saying in my class: I say what I mean and mean what I say. My students are aware of this and know that if I promise them something, I will follow through with it even if it is a negative consequence or a reward.

The most imoportant idea commuunicated regarding teacher's expectations is to relate expectations tothe students. This should be established the first day of school and should be included in the classroom rules. High expectations should include encouragement, social and emotional growth and be stated in a positive mannerin the rules. For an example, we do not have rules that begin with ":no". Instead of No fighting, our rule for that problem is stated ;We are a family, and fighting is not a member". We resure that teachers respect the students by our rule that states "Respect all teachers and paraprofessional, they respect you". Establishing good positive rules and being consist with the rules mergers over to good classroom management. A great teacher knows how to discipline the students and reminds them that they are cared for and loved, no matter what the student does, we will still love them. Great teachers communicate effectively to the misbehaved student, by making sure the students understand that their behave will not be tolerated . Knowing the students, postivie rules, and high expectations of the students are all intertwined into great classroom management.
teachers should never yell, argue, humiliate or degrad ea student.
An efffective teacher needs to know how to communicate positively towards the students in all behavioral situations, and to be fair with the student. Almost everynight at home, I am in contact with the paraprofessional in my room (she either calls me, or I call her). The majority of our conversation deals with our classroom. If there was a problem that day, I ask for her opinion if I handled the situation in the right way. We both take our job home!! I want to know how to improve myself as a teacher, did I handle this the right way? was I to hard on a certain student? All of these questions merge into self improving as a good effective teacher. I want to continually grow as an effective teacher!

I am excitec about using the Interactive White board and learning more about it. The gifted teacher is willing to join his students and my students for projects on the White board. How exciting the gifted students working with other Sp. Ed. students. The labtops will be a valuable tool considering we only have one computer in our room. My students will be able to research projects, take A/R tests instead of having to wait for the computer. I am real happy about increasing my knowledge in technology, but might need some assitance.
